Nia Vardalos Talks on Her New Book "Instant Mom"

Nia Vardalos, best known for her role in My Big Fat Greek Wedding, discusses her new book “Instant Mom” which chronicles the story of her road-to-parenting. In the book, Vardalos discusses her attempts at trying to have a baby and how her and her husband decided to try adoption. She states that the method that worked best for them was through American Foster Care where they discovered and signed up for a free service called Foster Family Agency. A network of social workers guided them through the entire process of adoption. Vardalos says that adopting her daughter has changed her life and she has since become an advocate for adoption. She says that there is an “irrational fear that surrounds the myths of adoption and that’s what I’m trying to dispel.” The proceeds from the book will be shared with groups aimed to encourage adoption because there are many children in need of a good home.

Doc Hendley Talks About World Water Day

In 2007 Doc Hendley a former bar tender founded the non profit organization Wine to Water to bring clean drinking water to countries around the world. Today is the 20th World Water Day a UN sanctioned event to bring awareness to the fact that more than one billion people are without clean drinking water around the world. Hendley says his efforts have become his true calling in life. Hendley has recently written a book entitled Wine to Water documenting his efforts.

Al Sapienza Talks About the Netflix Show House of Cards

Al Sapienza stars as Martin Spinella on the first original Netflix series House of Cards. The show premiered on Netflix February 1st of this year and is a political drama set in Washington D.C. Sapienza plays a lobbyist for the American Federation of Teachers. Because all episodes of the first season of the show are available to watch all at once it has become part of the binge watching craze. Binge watching is defined as watching several episodes of a show back to back at one time. Sapienza who has been on The Sopranos and has starred in several tv series including FOX’s “24,” “Prison Break,” and “Fringe,” NBC’s “Law & Order,” Showtime’s “Brotherhood,” and CBS’ “NCIS.” says this kind of accessibility to programming will change television forever. As for politics Sapienza has some strong feelings on politicians and what kind of a job they are doing in Congress now.

Lisa Loeb Set to Release A New Album

Singer-songwriter, guitarist, composer, actress, mother, wife, and eyewear expert, are some of Lisa Loeb’s everyday occupations. Lisa Loeb took some time to talk about her new album No Fairy Tale, the music industry today, and just what she’s been up to since her last “grown-up” album came out, almost 10 years ago.
Loeb’s new album came out January 29, and she says it was about time, “why now? Because I needed to put a record out! It’s been years since I put a grown-up record out”. Loeb began recording children’s albums about ten years ago, and she also released a children’s book. She also took some time to focus on her personal life. But a couple years ago, her friend, Chad Gilbert, of the band New Found Glory, approached her about making a record with him. Loeb says the two started on the record the very next day, “it was the perfect time for me. I had a young daughter who was one and it had been a little bit since I’d made a grown-up record,” says Loeb.
Loeb identifies a certain theme of her new record, “well the record is called No Fairy Tale which is the same name as one of the songs on the record—that’s the richness of the ups and downs, and real life is better than a fairy tale. And like a lot of my other records—there’s a lot of songs about relationships and emotional states—some of them happier than others. So I feel like that’s what the record represents. It’s a little edgier and more upbeat than some of my records in the past. I just wanted to tell these stories”.
Loeb was the first artist to have a number one single, with her song “Stay”, in the United States while not signed to a recording contract. That was of course unprecedented back then, but Loeb says that these days it’s not rare to hear an unsigned artist on the radio. She says she thinks that the internet has greatly affected the music industry in many ways, including creatively.
Loeb says that some things in music have remained unchanged though, “I think people are still interested in breaking down barriers, exploring new sounds. Of course people are still interested in doing retro things, where they bring things from the past and look to the past to inspire them in their production. There’s also a fun sense of humor that’s in a lot of music today, as well as people continuing to be honest and express themselves. So it’s really exciting. I think also, there’s less labeling of music. I think in the past, you had to label yourself in order to get your music out there, I don’t think you have to do that as much anymore”.
In the past 4 years, Loeb has gotten married, and had two children, so she has found herself as a working mother and wife, “probably working parents know this—you have to be very disciplined about your time,” she says. Loeb has found time to launch her own eyewear line (after all, she is well-known for her signature sassy specs), which can be found online or in stores.

Loeb says she is getting good reviews for her album, “it’s fun to do work and then have people appreciate it for what it is”.
Fran Drescher Discusses Happily Divorced and Her Cancer Research Foundation

Since 2011, Fran Drescher has been the star of her sitcom “Happily Divorced,” inspired by her life-story and recent divorce. “Happily Divorced” explores the experiences Fran faced after finding out her husband of eighteen years is gay. She says prior to going on a book tour, her now ex-husband admitted he has been living life as a gay man. Though the situation was painful at the time, Fran says it was for the better. She is content that he can “now live the rest of his life happy,” and expresses she is happily divorced. Following her situation, Fran and her co-executive producer figured it would be a perfect opportunity for a sitcom. Exploring a relationship fresh to television, the show has had nothing but positive reactions. Fran says those who like the show “Nanny,” enjoy sitcoms, and like to “laugh out loud,” will appreciate “Happily Divorced.” America continues to embrace the television star as she is on a quest to show others that “love is love, and never conditional.”
“Happily Divorced,” now airing internationally, is wrapping up the second season finale. Aside from filming, Fran is busy expressing civil liberties and protecting the Constitution as a passionate advocate. She promotes gay rights and heavily contributes to cancer research. Being a cancer survivor herself, she feels it is exceptional to inform others of potential cancer risks. Her program, Cancer Schmancer Movement, focuses on prevention and early detection. She also helped to get passage for H.R. 1245, which eventually will have government carcinogen-free labeling. She expresses the importance for carcinogen-free labeling, stating that people need to know what we are putting in our bodies and what surrounds us daily. These labels can prevent hazardous everyday products from entering your home and potentially causing a cancer risk. Fran continues to raise awareness for gay rights and cancer research, and hopes for everyone to tune into T.V. Land Wednesday nights for “Happily Divorced.”

Julie Andrews Talks About Her Latest Children's Book

More than 40 years ago Julie Andrews, best known for her roles in the Sound of Music and Mary Poppins began writing a variety of books but just 15 years ago she started writing with her daughter Emma Walton Hamilton. The latest book in the mother daughter duos Very Fairy Princess series is entitled The Very Fairy Princess Follows Her Heart. Andrews says the storyline follows Geraldine who prefers to be called Gerry and despite the fact that she has holes in her tights and dirty finger nails she is determined to find her inner sparkle. Andrews says it is a heartwarming tale for children of all ages. Andrews also discusses her continually busy schedule, what’s next for her and the importance of reading to children. So far her latest book has made it to number 2 on the New York Times Best Seller List

West Virginian Christian Lopez Talks About His Second Appearance On American Idol

If you are an American Idol fan you may remember Christian Lopez from Martinsburg, WV made it to Hollywood last season. He tried out for the show again this year and although he can’t say much about it he will say he made it further this year. Lopez says the experience this year has been great. Lopez says he has met some really talented people and he has learned what it takes to make music a career. He says his experience last year helped him to be better prepared for this season. Last year Lopez was sick in Hollywood, this year he says he took some precautions before he went out west. As for the new judges Lopez says Mariah Carey and Keith Urban were great but Nicki Minaj lived up to the hype. Lopez says he looks forward to watching this season of AI with his friends and family in Martinsburg.

National Geographic Channel chases the thrill of the hunt and the possibility of the discovery of a lifetime in new citizen science series Diggers. Premiering Tuesday, January 1, 2013, with back-to-back episodes at 10 and 10:30 PM ET/PT, the new series features vocational metal detector enthusiasts and amateur historiansGeorge “KG” Wyant and Tim “Ringy” Saylor as they travel the country uncovering the back story on American history.
Saylor and Wyant scour the country for lost pieces of history— from bullets at historic battlegrounds to family heirloom rings and silver coins. Where there is an empty yard, field or beach approved for metal detecting, the duo see a treasure trove, and will go the distance to uncover “the juice” or “sweet nectar” as they call it, working in close collaboration with a local archaeologist or historian at every site.
The premiere season of Diggers features such diverse locations and stories as:

Landau Eugene Murphy Junior Wins TV Personality of the Year

West Virginia native and winner of America’s Got Talent last year Landau Eugene Murphy Junior is now the TV Personality of the Year. Murphy won the award at the National Reality TV Awards USA. Murphy says he went to Hollywood to attend the awards ceremony never thinking he would actually win. Murphy says he is working on a Christmas cd and he will be in Western Maryland at the end of the Month.

PA Tavern Featured on My Ghost Story on A&E

If you a fan of the A & E show My Ghost Story you might want to tune in at 10 pm tonight. The Bedford Tavern will be featured in tonight’s episode. Tavern owner, Jeff Rinscheid says it was a great experience. A film crew from the show visited Bedford to capture images to be used in the episode. Tavern owner, My Ghost Story producers have been working with Mr. Rinscheid for months on the project, along with local authors and ghost hunters, Patty Wilson and Scott Crownover. Throughout the process, the group has provided a great deal of physical evidence to support their accounts of witnessing the paranormal in the historic building, originally constructed in the early 1820’s and operating as various businesses since at least 1850. Evidence includes photographs, videos, audio recordings and as many as three dozen stories of ghostly experiences over the past few years; moving objects, disembodied voices, and shadowy apparitions have been observed by workers and patrons alike. The program, which premiered in July of 2010 features ghost stories told from a person’s own experiences with the supernatural. Each episode chronicles first-hand eyewitness accounts of encounters at reportedly haunted locations throughout the United States.

Syrus best known for his role on MTV’s Real World Boston wants you to get out and vote. Syrus spoke at Allegany College of Maryland as part of the Rock the Vote, Rocking Registration and Decision 2012. He says he has been lecturing on voting since 2000. He says there is a misconception that you need to be really political to vote but he says anyone can do it and should. Syrus says know what you stand for and stand of it. He also works a lot with the 1830 Project which has an online calculator that helps you put aside money to be self reliant. He says his parents were not into voting so he had to go out and learn about the election process. He says he is from humble beginnings and has been able to do great things and he thinks that’s part of the American dream which voting is a part of. Meanwhile he just finished a new horror movie, bought a jewelry store, and is still working on reality tv shows.

Then on Sept 15thshe will be performing at Frostburg State University as part of the Bicentennial Celebration. She says she is looking forward to coming back to Frostburg to perform. Mattea says she even took up playing the banjo for this album. She says the new album is a follow up to Coal and Mattea says one of her favorite songs on the new album is Hello My Name is Coal.
